The 1,965-square-foot exhibit space was built to the specifications of the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Services so that it qualifies for many of their traveling exhibitions, as well as those of a number of other high-quality traveling exhibition companies.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Closed Friday through Sunday and on college-observed holidays. Admission to exhibits and receptions is free.

Over the last decade, the gallery has hosted a number of SITES exhibits but has also developed exhibits of its own such as the Student Juried Show, Biennial Faculty Exhibition, Extreme Pressure Biennial of American Prints, and Trains at the Holidays.

The gallery was completed in summer 1995 through the generous contributions of Frank and Gladys Webber, and continues to showcase various exhibits throughout the year.

Current Exhibit

“Seeing Christ in the Darkness”

“Seeing Christ in the Darkness: Georges Rouault as Graphic Artist,” an exhibition featuring a variety of graphic works by Georges Rouault (1871-1958), the 20th century master expressionist painter and printmaker. The exhibition will be on display Jan. 8-March 17 and features 18 original etchings from the artist’s renowned Miserere Series, as well as additional etchings, lithographs and wood engravings from the Fleurs du Mal (I and II) and the Passion Series.

The works on display are from The Bob and Sandra Bowden Collection of Chatham, Massachusetts, a substantial collection built over many years and many trips to Europe. Sandra Bowden will visit the Webber Center and Gallery on Wednesday, Jan. 17, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. She will participate in a question-and-answer forum with Professor Tyrus Clutter about the content and style of Rouault’s work. Professor Clutter will also hold a gallery talk delving into the layers of Georges Rouault’s artistic perspective, offering an in-depth exploration into the connection between his work and religion. This talk will be held in the gallery on Feb. 4 and 25, and March 3 and 10 from 2-3 p.m.

All of these sessions are free and open to the public.

The exhibition will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, through Sunday, March 17.
