AML 2010 Survey of American Literature I

AML 2010, Survey of American Literature I, is an introductory survey of American literature from the 17th century through the 19th century, including poetry, fiction, and nonfiction prose by major authors such as Poe, Hawthorne, Melville, Emerson, Thoreau, Dickinson, and Whitman. The goal of AML 2010 is that the student will develop critical thinking skills through careful evaluation of literature; write college-level essays based on literature; apply research methods to support literary interpretation; and, appreciate the life, culture, and literature of early America.
