Duke Energy Grants $100,000 for CF Digital Media Program

Duke Energy Florida has presented the College of Central Florida with $100,000 to develop a digital media specialization at the Citrus Campus. The grant was announced today at a news conference at the campus.
“The program will increase the number of academic pathways leading local residents into employment in high skill, high wage occupations,” said Dr. Vernon Lawter, Citrus Campus vice president. “Duke Energy is demonstrating commitment to our community with its support of this program, and we are excited about the opportunities it will provide for our community.”
The grant will support development of an 18-station media lab, equipment and software, instructional expenses, and program development and promotion. The first classes will be offered in fall 2014.
“Duke Energy Florida is proud to partner with the College of Central Florida Citrus Campus in expanding education programs through innovative courses for students,” said Amy Mangan, Duke Energy District Manager – Florida. “With this grant, students will learn the latest practices in digital media design and have opportunities in a growing, high wage job market.”
The Digital Media concentration within the Associate in Arts degree includes four, four-credit courses: Introduction to Digital Media, Digital Imaging and Fundamentals, Digital Video and Sounds, and Fundamentals of Interactive Design. The program is currently offered at the CF Ocala Campus.
According to Enterprise Florida and Digital Media Wire, Florida's fast-paced economic environment, entrepreneurial spirit and large talent pool are a perfect fit for digital media, an industry in which convergence, diversity and fast-paced change are paramount.
