Appleton Awarded Grant for School Art Program
Nov. 21, 2013
The Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, was awarded $1,500 from Enterprise Holdings Foundation to support its free outreach art program for schools in Marion, Citrus and Levy counties. The foundation is the philanthropic arm of the company that operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands.
This year, the Appleton’s Florida State Touring Program brings Florida musician Chris Kahl to schools. Kahl takes children on a “Musical Journey Through Florida” with a folk-style performance that highlights Florida history through stories and songs.
“We are thankful for organizations like the Enterprise Holdings Foundation which recognize the value of fine arts education,” said Cindi Morrison, director of the Appleton. “Teachers continuously express their gratitude for this program, and we look forward to continuing it.”
The touring program, which is also sponsored by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, reached more than 3,800 people in 2012-2013.
The Appleton Museum of Art offers a permanent collection of European, American and Contemporary art, plus Asian, African, Islamic and pre-Columbian artifacts and antiquities. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays and closed on Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
