International Tapestries at Appleton in April

Feb. 17, 2014

The Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, will showcase 25 tapestries woven by 25 international artists in “New Art of the Loom – Contemporary International Tapestries,” which opens Saturday, April 26, and closes June 29.

Exhibit curator Dirk Holger will lead a contemporary textiles discussion April 26 from 11 a.m. to noon at the museum, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd.

The tapestries are visually captivating and thought-provoking murals in a medium not often seen in today’s world. The works embrace a sweeping range of emotions and illuminate themes such as culture, nature, the figure, history, as well as the imagined and the unknown.

The artists represented in the exhibit are from Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States.

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays and closed on Mondays. Daily admission is $6 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 or better and students 19 and over; $3 for youths ages 10-18; and free for members, CF students, children age 9 and under, and active military personnel and their immediate families.
