Commercial Vehicle Driving School - Registration Procedures, Applying for Financial Aid, and Course Schedule

It is recommended that prospective students attend one of the weekly general information meetings about CDL training on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3 p.m. in building 31, Room 107.Commercial Vehicle Simulator

Before registering for Commercial Vehicle Driving Program courses, please do the following:

APPLICATION:  Go to Enrollment Services, Building #5 to complete the Admissions Process.  There is a one time non-refundable $20.00 application fee.

DRUG TEST & PHYSICAL:  Schedule an appointment to take a drug test and D.O.T. physical exam.  This can be done at any health clinic that does the D.O.T. physical exam.  Applicants are responsible for cost of the drug test and physical exam.

 

Please do the following for registration:

REGISTRATION:  Register with Mike Shuler (854-2322, ext. 1516) at the Criminal Justice Institute, Bldg. 31-108E.  Applicants are registered on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please call for office hours.  The Commercial Vehicle Driving School fees are currently $3,162.43 for Florida residents. The current fees are subject to change.  All fees must be paid by the first day of class.   FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE APPLICANTS WHO QUALIFY! 

CLASS “A” CDL PERMIT:  Obtain a temporary Class “A” CDL Permit just before class begins.  The applicant is responsible for the cost of the permit.  This is obtained by taking the written portion of the CDL exam at the Department of Motor Vehicles Drivers License Division.

Take paperwork showing proof of passing both the drug test and the D.O.T. physical exam, along with a paid copy of your fee bill to the Commercial Vehicle Driving School on the first day of class.  Please also bring your social security card to the instructor.

After successful completion of the Commercial Vehicle Driving Program requirements, the instructor will administer the final exam.

Commercial Driving Road Test

Before requesting a CDL Road Test, the requirements needed are a Class A, B, or C permit from the Department of Motor Vehicles, Driver's License, and Social Security Card. This should be brought to the school on the day of the testing, along with the payment for the road test. Accepted payment would be a money order or a company check.

 

How to apply for financial assistance:

  1. If you decide to apply for financial assistance, you will need to complete a 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the U.S. Department of Education.   To begin this process, go to www.pin.ed.gov and obtain a personal identification number (PIN). 
  2. When you receive your PIN, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and complete the FAFSA application.  As you are completing your FAFSA application, please request that the U.S. Department of Education send a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) to Central Florida Community College (school code #001471). 
  3. Contact Mike Shuler, in Building 31, Room 108H, to complete the required CFCC applications for vocational grants and scholarships.
