The Senior Institute

Senior Institute Senior

The Senior Institute, founded in 1991, was sponsored by CF to promote continuing education, learning opportunities, quality leisure time, and social interaction for residents 50 and better. At the time of its inception, Senior Institute was a relatively new concept in educational learning for older learners. Such entities are attached to a college or university and form a unique part of the institution for older learners.

Programming
The courses to be offered each year are selected by the Senior Institute Commission after input from the membership. A variety of noncredit courses are offered each semester. Classes are usually held on campus during the day.

Some recent class subjects include Florida History, Comparative Religions, Florida Water Issues, Ancient Culture, Music Appreciation, and Great Books. In addition to scheduled courses, the Senior Institute hosts annual social events including the Spring Fling, December Holiday Party, and occasional field trips. Senior Institute SeniorMembership
The Senior Institute's membership is growing. Membership is available for $100 per year and includes unlimited access to all courses offered through the program (for a fee of $5 per course). A few courses require buying books or supplies. All members are considered CF students and are accorded various student discounts and privileges. This includes access to Appleton Museum of Art activities, trips and tours at a student rate.
