Financial Aid Application Process for the Future Student

Though the primary responsibility for funding a college education belongs to the student and his/her family, many students demonstrate need for financial assistance through the Federal formula for determining need. Need for all students is determined utilizing the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) which is derived from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) submitted by the student. Once the FAFSA is processed by the Federal Government, the results are forwarded to College of Central Florida Financial Aid Office (FAO).

  • For the best results, apply early.
  • For Fall Registration - Complete all of these steps by May 1.
  • For Spring Registration - Complete all of these steps by October 1.
  • For Summer Registration - Complete all of these steps by February 1.

Step 1

Admissions/ Application:

Apply for admission to College of Central Florida as a degree or certificate seeking student.

Request your high school transcripts or GED and your college transcripts if you have attended a previous institution. NOTE: Academic transcripts from prior schools attended other than CF must be received and coursework evaluated by CF’s Admissions Office before financial assistance can be awarded. Although you may defer transcripts for one semester for admission purposes, this is not the case for financial aid.

Step 2

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA):

Submit the FAFSA to the federal processor. You can do this on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov

Be sure to include CF’s federal school code number 001471. To electronically sign your application you (and your parent) can apply for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. Allow at least four weeks for processing. Electronically signing your application will significantly reduce processing time.

Step 3

Additional Information:

You may be selected in a process called "Verification". Additional information such as copies of your tax returns, W-2's, and verification worksheets, etc., may be required by the FAO. Be sure to respond promptly to all requests.

Make sure the Records Office has your correct address and phone number at all times.

Step 4

Scholarships, Student Loans, and/or Work-Study Jobs:

Research and apply for scholarships based on merit and/or need. Scholarship deadlines are usually much earlier than other aid deadlines, so start the process early!

Apply for a student loan only if you need to borrow additional funds.

Apply for a work-study job if you need more aid and want to work part-time at CF.
