CFCC President Dassance Named Communicator of the Year
June 19, 2008
Dr. Charles Dassance, president of Central Florida Community College, has been named Communicator of the Year by the Ocala Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association.
The honor was announced at the fourth annual Marion County Communicator of the Year awards on June 19 at the Country Club of Ocala.
The Communicator of the Year award is presented to the person who uses their position to enhance Marion County’s community causes, advance the field of public relations and uphold the ethical standards that represent the Ocala chapter.
"While the award winner does not have to be a member of either the Ocala chapter or of FPRA in general, they should exemplify the highest professional standards in the communications field,” according to Anita Winter, Ocala chapter president.
Dassance, who has been president of CFCC since 1996, was nominated for the award by an FPRA member and selected as the winner by a committee of FPRA members.
Dassance “has transformed the campus into a highly regarded institution over the last decade,” according to his nomination form. “A regular fixture on campus, seen talking one-on-one with students on a regular basis, Dr. Dassance also represents the college in countless professional circles. Notably, he’s the voice of reason when it comes to a quality college education.”
Dassance sets an example for all CFCC employees with his community involvement. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Marion County Emergency Management Services Alliance, the Ocala/Marion County Economic Development Council, the Heart of Florida Regional Coalition and the Public Policy Institute of Marion County. Along with his wife, Sara, he co-chaired the 2004 March of Dimes Walk America Campaign and has chaired the Marion County United Way Campaign.
Dassance has been a recipient of the “President’s Award for Professional Excellence” from the Florida Association of Community Colleges, the Southern Region Chief Executive Officer Award from the Association of Community Colleges Trustees and the Diamond Honoree Award by the American College Personnel Association.
