College Represented at Plus 50 Initiative Conference

Aug. 6, 2009

Central Florida Community College was represented by Jerone Gamble, executive manager of Continuing Education, and Bebe Rahaman, program associate, at the Plus 50 Initiative Conference in Washington, D.C., in July.

Gamble presented and reported on the growth and development in the services provided by CFCC Pathways programs and exchanged information and ideas with the other 15 community colleges that are a part of the Plus 50 Initiative. In addition to enhancing local programs for seniors, CFCC is mentoring colleges in Virginia, North Carolina and Okalahoma as part of a three-year, nationwide initiative launched by the American Association of Community Colleges with support from The Atlantic Philanthropies.

Gamble and Rahaman are assisted by Betty Green, coordinator of the Senior Institute, and Dian Booth, manager of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at CFCC. The college has received $80,000 in grants to implement the programs, which focus on three core areas: lifelong learning, workforce re-education and volunteer services that lead toward purposeful lives.
