Appleton Museum of Art Welcomes New Educator

July 9, 2008

Korene Wilbanks has joined the Appleton Museum of Art of Central Florida Community College as museum educator.

Wilbanks, who moved to Ocala from Virginia Beach, has a master’s degree in art history from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. Her museum background includes work as gallery art specialist and state archivist, developing outreach programs for the Library of Virginia as well as educational programs for the Museum of the Confederacy. She has also served on the board of directors of the Chautauqua Art Association Galleries in New York.

"I like to mix excitement and theater with the traditional arts education agenda,” said Wilbanks, adding that she plans to “bring the (Appleton’s) education program to its full potential as an asset to the community.”

Wilbanks said that her initial focus will be developing educational programs tied to upcoming exhibitions as well as expanding public programs in the Edith-Marie Appleton wing of the museum.

The Appleton Museum of Art, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, is owned and operated by Central Florida Community College. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. General admission is $6, and free to museum members, CFCC students, and military personnel and their immediate families.
