Florida Historian, Author Mormino to Visit CFCC
Nov. 4, 2009
Central Florida Community College will host Dr. Gary R. Mormino, author of “Land of Sunshine, State of Dreams: A Social History of Modern Florida” on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
The presentation is free and begins at 6 p.m. in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Room 110, at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.
"Dr. Mormino is the leading historian of Florida today,” said Darrell G. Riley, assistant professor of Social Sciences at CFCC. “Through his most recent book, Mormino reveals how the tremendous social changes in Florida during the past 60 years have done more to shape our state than hanging chads, close elections and political battles.”
Mormino is the Frank E. Duckwall Professor of History at the University of South Florida. He is also the author of “Immigrants on the Hill: Italian-Americans in St. Louis, 1882-1982” and "The Immigrant World of Ybor City: Italians and Their Latin Neighbors in Tampa, 1885-1985.”
Funding for the presentation is provided through a grant from the CFCC Teaching/Learning Institute. For information, contact Riley at 352-854-2322, ext. 1397, or rileyd@cf.edu.
