CFCC to Host Conversation on India, China

Central Florida Community College will host “Global Conversations: Beyond the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall” on Wednesday, April 23. The event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Webber Center at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.
“The presentation will provide an opportunity to learn about the historical, economic, cultural, spiritual and political trends that influence India and China, where nearly 40 percent of the population resides,” said Pat Fleming, CFCC associate professor and coordinator of the event. “It is a glimpse at what every student, teacher and lifelong learner needs to know about India and China.”
Program facilitators are Dr. Vasadu Narayanan and Dr. Joseph Murphy, both from the University of Florida. Narayanan is founder of UF’s Center for Hindu Traditions, established to encourage the research, teaching and public understating of Hindu culture and traditions. He has a long publishing a teaching career as well as personal experience living in Western and Indian Cultures. Murphy is director of Asian Studies at UF and recently facilitated two seminars on China in conjunction with the National Center for the Teaching of Asia. Nandkishor Muley, an accomplished international musician, will provide musical entertainment on the santoor, a traditional Indian instrument.
