International Film Series Presents 'Departures'

Jan. 27, 2010

The Central Florida Community College International Film Series will present the 2008 Japanese film “Departures” on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

In the film, a devoted cellist finds himself without a job when his orchestra is dissolved. He answers a classified ad entitled “Departures,” thinking that it is an ad for a travel agency, and soon learns that the job is for a Nokanshi, or funeral professional. The film follows his profound journey as a gentle gatekeeper between life and death. The 130-minute film is rated PG-13.

The film will be shown at 2 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art of Central Florida Community College, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd., and at 7 p.m. in Building 8, Room 110, at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. The viewing is free at CFCC. At the Appleton, viewers must pay museum admission unless they are museum members or patrons of the CFCC International Film Series.
