CFCC Citrus Campus Celebrates Green Week
~April 10, 2008
The Citrus Campus of Central Florida Community College invites the community to Green Week activities April 15 through 17. The campus is located at 3800 S. Lecanto Highway in Lecanto.
“CFCC is working to make sustainability a part of campus culture and the Citrus Campus is pleased to present these programs to support the effort,” said Dr. Vernon Lawter, provost of the Citrus Campus. “Our students, faculty and staff are making a concerted effort to go green and we invite the community to join us.”
On Tuesday, April 15, Audrey Durr, will present “Nine Steps to a Greener You.” Durr is program coordinator for Florida Yards & Neighborhoods, University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Citrus County Extension. The presentation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the Jerome Multipurpose Room.
On Wednesday, April 16, CFCC Professor Michele Wirt will conduct a presentation on the art of Chris Jordan entitled “Running the Numbers.” The artwork depicts the staggering statistics of waste in the United States. “Each image portrays a specific quantity of something: 15 million sheets of office paper (five minutes of paper use); 106,000 aluminum cans (30 seconds of can consumption) and so on,” Jordan says on his Web site. “My hope is that images representing these quantities might have a different effect than the raw numbers alone.” This presentation will also be held in the Jerome Multipurpose Room from noon to 1 p.m.
On Thursday, April 17, students, faculty and staff will offer ideas on how individuals can personally commit to the sustainability effort. From noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Jerome Multipurpose Room students will present papers on sustainability, and event participants will receive sustainability starter kits.
Green Week activities are sponsored by the CFCC Foundation and the Citrus County Division of Solid Waste Management. For more information, please call 352-746-6721.
