Hampton Film Series Presents 'Stormy Weather'

Jan. 12, 2010

Central Florida Community College will present the 1943 film “Stormy Weather” on Friday, Jan. 29. The showing is free and begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Hampton Center, 1501 W. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala.

"Stormy Weather” is vaguely based on the life of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and features the best of the great African-American entertainers of the early 1900s. The World War I veteran goes into show business after falling in love with a singer, but their careers draw them in different directions. The 78-minute film was directed by Andrew L. Stone and features Lena Horne, Bill Robinson, Fats Waller and Cab Calloway and His Band.

The film is the first of the year in the Hampton Center Film Series, which is designed to add to the cultural environment in the West Ocala area. The series presents three high quality films, each followed by a brief discussion. “Freedom Writers” will be featured Feb. 19 and "Homeless to Harvard” on March 19.
