Learn Florida-Friendly Landscaping at CFCC Levy Center

The Levy Center of Central Florida Community College will offer a six-week Florida-Friendly Landscaping class. The class will meet Saturdays, Aug. 9 through Sept. 13, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Levy Center, 114 Rodgers Blvd. in Chiefland.

Students will learn about the soil conditions in North Central Florida and how to select plants that work in this area. Other subjects that will be covered in depth include: watering; fertilizing and pest control; attracting or repelling wildlife; and hardscaping. A field trip to Fanning Springs State Park and a “dirty hands” lab on planting native plants from seeds are included. The course fee of $60 includes the field trip and all materials.

Instructor Annette Long holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and Environmental Landscaping from the University of Florida.
