Levy Center to Offer Security Officer Training

Jan. 15, 2010

The Central Florida Community College Levy Center is now offering training for security officers.

The Security Officer: 24-Hour Unarmed course enables students to apply for a “D” license. Topics covered in the class include legal issues/civil liability, observation techniques, report writing, basic emergency first aid, emergency procedures, ethics/professional conduct, patrol techniques, and Chapter 493 Florida Statutes. The class will meet Feb. 1-5 from 6 to 10 p.m. and Feb. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The course fee is $105.

Because the state requires 40 hours of training, students must also complete the Security Officer: 16-Hour Unarmed (Supplemental) course within 180 days of their initial license application. This course covers public relations, courtroom procedures, interviewing techniques, crowd control and other special problems faced by security officers. Security Officer: 16-Hour Unarmed (Supplemental) will meet Feb. 22-25 from 6 to 10 p.m. The course fee is $90.

Students may enroll at the Levy Center, 114 Rodgers Blvd., Chiefland; by telephone at 352-493-9533; or online at www.CFCCtraining.com (select Levy noncredit catalog). Enrollment deadline is one week prior to the start of class.
