'A New Home,' Arab American Museum Exhibit, at CF Webber Center
Aug. 2, 2012
The College of Central Florida will open “A New Home: Selections from the Arab American National Museum”on Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Webber Center Gallery, Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.
An opening reception will be held that day from 4:30-6:30 p.m. There is no fee to attend the opening or exhibit.
“A New Home” features two insightful exhibits from the permanent collection of the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Mich. “Rogovin”features the photojournalism of Milton Rogovin that documents the assimilation of the Yemeni refugees in their new home in the United States. His poignant photography captures the essence and struggles of the refugee community. “In Times of War: Her Untold Story” highlights the effects of war from a woman’s perspective, focusing on nine women who have experienced war in their own unique way. Both of these exhibits touch on the important role traditional dress, arts and crafts can play when a community becomes displaced.
This exhibit will continue through Saturday, Nov. 3. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The gallery is closed Sundays, Mondays and college-observed holidays. For additional information call 352-873-5809.
