CF Professor Olsen to Present Lectures

Jan. 18, 2013

College of Central Florida will host two lectures with Dr. Scott A. Olsen on ancient wisdom, modern science, and the future of religion in the 21st century. Both presentations will be held at the CF Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. The events are free and open to the public.

The first lecture, “Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science: A Paradigm-Shifting Connection,” will be held Monday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Dassance Fine Arts Center. In this Dr. Joel Lasky Memorial Lecture, Olsen will present new discoveries that may lead to a closer relationship between science and religion.

The follow-up lecture, “The Future of Religion in the 21st Century: Foundation for a New Renaissance,” will take place Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 12:30 p.m. in the Webber Center. Building upon insights from the previous lecture, Olsen will examine the qualities of religion that may be compatible with this broader view of science.

Olsen is professor of philosophy and religion at CF. He is currently writing his second book. His first book, “The Golden Section: Nature’s Greatest Secret,” was awarded first place for design by the Bookbinder’s Guild of New York in 2007.

This event is sponsored by the CF Senior Learning Institute, The Interfaith Alliance, and the Ocala Star-Banner. More information is available at tiamarioncounty.org or by emailing TIAofMarionCountyFL@gmail.com.
