CFCC to Open Polymer Clay Exhibit
June 16, 2008
Central Florida Community College opens its summer exhibit, Polymer Clay: Functional and Aesthetic Objects, on Thursday, July 10, at the gallery of the Webber Center at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.
The public is also invited to the opening reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free.
This exhibit includes works created by members of the North Central Florida Polymer Clay Guild, which aims to educate its members and the community on the use of polymer clay by conducting workshops and contributing to public service projects.
Diana McNamee, a longtime member of the guild says, “We strive to create an environment that encourages and nurtures the individual artist, and participating in this exhibit is also a wonderful chance to foster public knowledge about the medium of polymer clay.” The Orlando Area and St. Petersburg Polymer Clay Guilds will be represented as well. Some of the works are for sale.
Polymer clay is a material that can be transformed into both functional and artistic works such as jewelry, sculpture, handbags, masks and fabric pieces. Many mixed media objects are combined with pieces of polymer clay.
The Webber Center Gallery will host a workshop for artists, “Mix It Up With Polymer Clay!” on Saturday, Aug. 9. Sessions are available for adults, ages 16 and up, and children, ages 8-16. Admission is free, but individuals must RSVP as space is limited. Call 352-854-2322, ext. 1664, to reserve a seat.
The exhibit will continue through Saturday, Aug. 23. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The gallery is closed Sundays, Mondays and college-observed holidays. For additional information, call 352-873-5809.
