CF RSVP Calls for Volunteers
Oct. 15, 2012
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program sponsored by the College of Central Florida is striving to help its partner agencies meet the ever-present demand for volunteers.
“There is an immediate need for 60-75 volunteers and twice that many will be needed throughout the holidays,” said Jerone Gamble, Senior Services coordinator at CF and program director for RSVP.
Interfaith Emergency Services needs 10 volunteers to serve as greeters for people making donations, to help with packing and distributing food, and to assist in its retail operation. The Salvation Army is recruiting 50 volunteers as bell ringers for holiday donation kettles, and to assist with receiving, sorting and distributing gifts for children during the holidays. First United Methodist Church needs 15 volunteers to assist with meals and distribution of clothing, bath and personal products.
In order to serve as an RSVP volunteer you must be at least 55 years of age. The hours you contribute become part of the national database for RSVP indicating the level of volunteerism in Marion County.
In addition to the altruistic benefits, RSVP volunteers have an opportunity to attend one free Senior Learning Institute course per semester at the college, receive supplemental insurance that provides excess coverage while you are performing or traveling for your volunteer assignment, and be recognized for accomplishments and milestones.
Register with RSVP by calling 352-291-4444 or emailing Joyce Wright at firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also attend an RSVP Information Session held at the college on Wednesdays at noon. Contact Wright to confirm dates and locations.
RSVP of Marion County is sponsored by the College of Central Florida and is a part of the national Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of the Senior Corp and the Corporation for National and Community Service. RSVP works with more than 45 nonprofit and governmental agencies in Marion County.
