CFCC, Mature Lifestyles to Host Senior Fun Fest

The Senior Fun Fest! will be held at Central Florida Community College on Friday, May 23, presented by Mature Lifestyles magazine and CFCC’s Pathways to Living, Learning and Serving.

This free event will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ewers Century Center of the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road, and features more than 60 senior friendly exhibitors. Exhibitors will provide information on health and wellness, senior lifestyles, travel and attractions, home improvements, and senior services. Parking is also free.

Live entertainment will be provided all day. Celebrate the ’50s and ’60s with American Bandstand recording artist Mary Swan, who performs “Crying in the Chapel” and "My Heart Belongs to Only You.” Swan’s career had an interesting start as a child in Philadelphia.

“Dick Clark came into the recording studio to pick up a package,” said Swan. “I was 17 and he heard me recording a teenage song I had written.” Clark asked who the singer was, met her and signed her up that day. She went on American Bandstand for five daytime shows and one night show. From there, she performed with Paul Anka, Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon and others. Today, she performs with her daughter, Marti Carroll, the Nashville recording artist of “Backtrack.”

Entertainment will also include Fritzy the One Man Circus who juggles, unicycles, globe walks, does a Charlie Chaplin imitation, and a four-legged walk-a-bout.  

Enjoy the day with free health screenings, free bingo games for prizes, a classic car show, giveaways, and free coffee and snacks. A senior-friendly lunch will be available for $5.

A Senior Fun Walk, one mile around the campus, begins at 9:30 a.m. For a $3 donation, walkers will enjoy a continental breakfast, a sponsor-provided goody bag, a T-shirt to the first 100 who sign up, and prizes to the winners. To receive a form to preregister for the walk, call 1-888-670-0040, go to www.SrMagazine.com, or register in person by 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event.
