CF Foundation Taste of Ocala a Success
May 31, 2012
The College of Central Florida Foundation has put a stamp of approval on its revitalized Taste of Ocala scholarship fundraiser, held May 5 at the CF Ocala Campus.
“We accomplished what we set out to do — increase the scholarship funds available to our students — and created a lovely event that was enjoyed by patrons, restaurateurs and the community,” said Joan Stearns, CF vice president of Institutional Advancement. “While financial records are still being finalized, the amount raised was approximately $37,000, double the amount raised in 2011.”
The 2012 Taste of Ocala was moved inside the Ewers Century Center and included 14 restaurants, wine tasting, music and a chance to win a 1-carat diamond.
Taste of Ocala honors were presented to four restaurants: People’s Choice Award to Mesa de Notte, Best Presentation to Mesa de Notte and Marion County Public School’s Community Technical and Adult Education, Best Savory Item to Sky Asian Fusion, and Best Sweet Item to Betty Cakes. Penny Villella was winner of the diamond provided by Nancy Porter, Ocala’s Lady Jeweler.
“We are looking forward to growing the Taste of Ocala in this format,” said Stearns. “Our students are thankful for the additional scholarship funds that we can now provide.”
