CF Webber Gallery to Host 'Trading Places," Ceramics Exhibit

June 5, 2012

The College of Central Florida will feature “Trading Places,” a ceramic collaboration. The exhibition will open Thursday, July 12, with a reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Webber Center Gallery, CF Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.

“Trading Places” features the work of 20 ceramic artists affiliated with the University of Florida who exchanged undecorated greenware pieces among each other. The pieces were selected at random and the interpretation of finishing was open to the artist.

“‘Trading Places’ is the brainchild of UF Ceramics senior Marah Gaiti and the graduating advanced ceramics class,” said Nicole Gugliotti, who participated in the project. “There have been riffs on this theme before but we were interested in seeing what would happen if such a tight knit group of artists were given the opportunity to interpret each other's work through our own methods. Sitting next to each other in the gallery, the results are pretty exciting.”

UF’s Master of Fine Arts program in Ceramics is ranked 15th in the country by US News and World Report. Participants in the exhibition are Drew Avakian, Matthew Bullis, Rhonda Chan, Sam Chung, Courtney Cummins, Divya Curtis, Donna Flanery, Marah Gaiti, Ray Gonzalez, Nicole Gugliotti, Jeni Hansen, Rob Kolhouse, Galen Olmsted, Marie Pashkevich, Dandee Pattee, Cheyenne Rudolph, Jeffrey Sincich, Josh Stover, Nick Wells and Andrea Ziemnicki.

The “Trading Places” exhibit runs through Sept. 1. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The gallery is closed Sundays, Mondays and college-observed holidays. For additional information, call 352-873-5809.
