B105: Bachelor of Applied Science in Business and Organizational Managementâ€” Public Safety Administration Specialization
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Business and Organizational Management is designed to prepare students to become effective leaders in organizations and society. Specializations in Agribusiness Management, Health Care Management, Management Information Systems, and Public Safety Administration will prepare graduates for administrative or managerial positions in agriculture, business, information technology, health services, government, criminal justice, fire services and other related or managerial careers.
Requirements for admission into the B.A.S. in Business and Organizational Management degree program are:
- Completion of an application to the baccalaureate program indicating business management or a specialization
- completion of an associate degree
- submission of official transcripts indicating all college level and high school coursework taken and degrees earned.
Students accepted for these programs must have completed either an Associate in Arts degree or an associate in science degree in a program related to a specialization with a minimum 2.0 GPA. A minimum of 60 credits from the student's associate degree will count toward completion of the baccalaureate program.
Depending on the associate degree the student possesses, additional general education or technical specialization courses will be required before taking most upper-division coursework. Students should work closely with their advisor to ensure that all program requirements are met.
Associate degree core credit requirements (36 credits):
- ENC 1101 (3); MAC 1105 or higher (3); Humanities (3); Social Science (3); Biological or Physical Science (3) for a total of 15 credit hours.
- General Education electives for a total of 21 credit hours.
Anyone holding an Associate in Arts degree from an accredited institution fulfills the general education requirements.
A B.A.S. degree requires completion of two years of the same foreign language at the high school level or two courses (8 credits) in the same language at the college level with grades of C or better.
The B.A.S. Public Safety Administration specialization is designed for students who have an associate degree in a public safety program such as criminal justice, fire science, emergency management and emergency medical services. These students will need to complete the general education requirements.
Students who have completed an A.A. or an unrelated A.S. degree may also apply and should complete 21 credits of technical courses prior to beginning select upper-division coursework. See a CF advisor for details.
B.A.S. core requirements are MAN 3303 Management and Leadership (3); COM 3120 Organizational Communications (3); ACG 3024 Accounting for Non-Financial Majors (3); BUL 3130 Legal and Ethical Environment of Business (3); MAN 4940 Internship in Business and Organizational Management (3).
The required specialization courses are DSC 3079 Foundations of Public Safety (3); DSC 3215 Emergency Planning (3); DSC 4226 National Incident Management (3); DSC 4755 National Security (3); DSC 4931 Selected Topics in Public Safety (3); CJL 3510 Prosecution and Adjudication (3); DSC 4013 Capstone in Public Safety (6).
