College Level Academic Skills (CLAS)Note: Beginning July 1, 2009, the Florida Legislature eliminated the need for a student to take or present passing scores on the College Level Academic Skills Test, CLAST, but still requires a student to fulfill one of the exemptions below before completing his or her Associate in Arts degree. [F.S. 1007.25 and F.A.C. 6A-10.0311] To earn an Associate in Arts degree after July 1, 2009, students must fulfill one of the following exemptions in addition to successfully fulfilling other current A.A. degree requirements. 1. Exemption via American College Testing, ACT:
2. Exemption via Scholastic Achievement Test, SAT-I:
No specific college grades or mathematics courses are required with the SAT-I or ACT or CPT exemption option. Note: Contact the Office of Admissions and Records for scores relevant to ACT tests taken prior to October 1989. IMPORTANT: All students who had met the former CLAST requirements by passing all four portions of the CLAST exam will not need to meet the July 1, 2009, and forward requirements. 4. Earn a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above, on a 4.0 scale, in postsecondary-level course work identified by the Postsecondary Education Planning Commission (F.S. 1008.29). Note: Credit-by-exam (ex: AP, IB, CLEP and AICE) = 2.7 for the purpose of CLAS exemption grade point average calculations.
If a course number has four digits, the first digit is assigned by the institution and does not indicate content of the course. (i.e., 1106 is equivalent to 2106 for exemption purposes) These requirements are subject to change. Please see the Office of Admissions and Records or the Enrollment Service Center at the campus nearest you for the most current information regarding this requirement. |
