Professional Development Funding Opportunities

TLI logoMini-Grants:

Instructional Mini-Grants are offered in three categories with a maximum limit of $1500 per grant. In evaluating proposals, the TLSC members look primarily at the intended impact on the improvement of student learning. The best projects are those that involve students directly or those that provide faculty with skills for more effective instruction.

Faculty Funding for Conferences/Professional Development Travel:

All faculty, full-time and adjuncts (currently under contract with CFCC), may apply for funding of professional conferences and other kinds of professional travel activities. Requests are evaluated by three members of the TLSC , who are appointed by the T/LI Coordinator. Members of the committee represent different disciplines in order to provide discipline-specific information relative to the particular request. The T/LI Coordinator chairs the committee and all applictions are processed by the OPD Coordinator, who is the budget custodian for faculty SPD funding.

As with the Mini-Grant awards, the committee makes recommendations for professional travel funding based on how the activity will advance student learning and fulfill goals of the Professional Development Plan. Upon return, when submitting their requests for reimbursement, recipients turn in a report on their reactions to the activity, commenting on the benefits (see second page of application form). A summary of these is published in the Teaching/Learning journal Directions, which is published four times annually.

Employee Course Tuition Reimbursement:

Limited funding for graduate courses and for additional training is available for all faculty. Applicants must explain how the coursework will enhance their teaching and improve student learning. A set amount, based on average of state university graduate tuition, is awarded per semester for each applicant. Payment is made upon completion of the course and upon receipt of course proof of payment and grade.

Super Saturdays:

Yes, Saturdays can be SUPER especially if you can spend them working on a project for your classes or your own professional development that you've long wished you had the time to do. The premise of the workshops is that you know what you want to learn and only need time and a little help to accomplish your project. Participants will submit a proposal of a project that can be completed during the one-day workshops. Instruction will be provided, but most of the time will be spent in hands on activities related to completing the proposed project. A $100 stipend (or equipment) will be given to each participant.

Workshops will be held on the first Saturday in November and March. A maximum of 15 participants will be accepted for each workshop. If more than 15 applications are received, preference will be given to those whose projects reflect the T/LI mission, have not participated previously, and whose applications were received first.

To be considered as a participant for one or both of the Super Saturdays, please complete the application and submit it to Sandy Scott in the Professional Development Center.
