DESCRIPTION:CF students are invited to join the Office of Student Life for a discussion of the movie “Do the Right Thing” a 1989 film by Spike Lee on Wednesday\, Nov. 18\, 12:45-1:45 p.m.\, online. Students will watch the movie on their own. Film scholar Janna Jones will give a short talk and lead a discussion on the groundbreaking film. Jones is a professor of Creative Media and Film in the School of Communication at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff\, Arizona. A twentieth-century historian\, Jones’ scholarship focuses on the history of cinema going\, historic movie theaters\, amateur filmmaking\, public exhibition\, architectural preservation urban and suburban history\, and public art. Prizes include a variety of Spike Lee films and backpack buttons. \nSponsored by the Humanities Department and the Student Activities Board. \nStudents need to make sure they have updated their Zoom app to the latest version and can register in advance for this meeting at the link below. For more information\, contact Marjorie McGee at ext. 1578 or at mcgeem@cf.edu. \nRegister in advance for this event. \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \n“Do the Right Thing”\nSalvatore “Sal” Fragione (Danny Aiello) is the Italian owner of a pizzeria in Brooklyn. A neighborhood local\, Buggin’ Out (Giancarlo Esposito)\, becomes upset when he sees that the pizzeria’s Wall of Fame exhibits only Italian actors. Buggin’ Out believes a pizzeria in a black neighborhood should showcase black actors\, but Sal disagrees. The wall becomes a symbol of racism and hate to Buggin’ Out and to other people in the neighborhood\, and tensions rise.
