DESCRIPTION:The Webber Gallery presents “Next text\,” a collection of work by multicultural artists from across the country will showcase an intriguing display of storytelling through the use of text in the visual arts. The exhibition was curated by CF Professor of Art Tyrus Clutter and Sheila Goloborotko\, an associate professor of printmaking at University of North Florida\, whose artwork has been featured in past exhibitions at the Webber Gallery. \nThe exhibition will open on Thursday\, Oct. 6\, and be on view through Thursday\, Oct. 27. Admission is free.\nThe community is invited to an opening reception  on Thursday\, Oct. 6\, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. \nThe Webber Gallery is located at the CF Ocala Campus\, 3001 S.W. College Road. DESCRIPTION:As part of “The Patriot Project: Bringing History to Life” and Latin History Month\, Wendy Adams\, Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences\, will screen “Latin History for Morons.” In this one-man Broadway show\, John Leguizamo finds humor and heartbreak as he traces 3\,000 years of Latin history in an effort to help his bullied son. General Bernardo Galvez’s (from Spain)\, who Leguizamo describes as the “George Washington of Texas\, Louisiana\, and Pensacola\,” personal financing of the war effort and command of army comprised of Puerto Ricans\, Cubans and Mexican that help win American Revolutionary War is highlighted. Hailed by Chicago Tribune’s Chris Jones as “a genuinely brilliant piece of popular\, political theater\,” this is a must see for students\, educators\, and the general public. \nThe event will be held in 8-110 on Wednesday\, Oct. 12\, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The event is free. Light refreshments and event giveaways will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Ocala Campus in Building 8\, Room 110 to hear from legendary author Eileen Myles for a poetry reading\, book giveaway and signing\, followed by a free copy of their latest work for the first 35 attendees! \nAbout the Author \nEileen Myles is a pioneer in literature-proudly authoring more than twenty books\, including For Now\, Evolution\, Afterglow (a dog memoir)\, Chelsea Girls\, and I Must Be Living Twice: New & Selected Poems 1974-2014. Myles’s many honors include four Lambda Literary Awards\, the Clark Prize for Excellence in Arts Writing\, the Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America\, Creative Capital’s Literature Award as well as their Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant\, and a Foundation for Contemporary Arts grant. They were also rewarded the Lambda Pioneer Award for contributions to the LGBT literary community. Myles lives in Marfa\, Texas\, and New York City. \nThis event is part of the CF Visiting Author Series.

This play version of the famous story\, created by Vera Morris\, is a fantastic mix of comedy and thrills. Phantoms\, folk dances\, the notorious schoolmaster Ichabod Crane\, Katrina\, the Sleepy Hollow Boys and\, of course\, the Headless Horseman all make appearances onstage. \nTwenty-three CF students make up the cast\, including Janik Buranosky as Ichabod Crane\, Perla Ramirez as Katrina and Jackson Reed as Brom Bones. College Road\, Ocala. \n“‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ is the original American gothic ghost story written by Washington Irving more than 200 years ago. One of the star haunts of the story is the Headless Horseman\, arguably the biggest symbol of Halloween. This play version of the famous story\, created by Vera Morris\, is a fantastic mix of comedy and thrills. Phantoms\, folk dances\, the notorious schoolmaster Ichabod Crane\, Katrina\, the Sleepy Hollow Boys and\, of course\, the Headless Horseman all make appearances onstage. \nTwenty-three CF students make up the cast\, including Janik Buranosky as Ichabod Crane\, Perla Ramirez as Katrina and Jackson Reed as Brom Bones. The production will feature a student-built set and student tech crew. \nTickets are $12 for adults and $6 for non-CF students and can be purchased at CF.universitytickets.com or by calling 352-873-5810. Tickets are free for CF students\, faculty and staff with valid I.D.
