SUMMARY:"Monuments Men" Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy free admission on February 15 in honor of President’s Day (February 16). \nAt 1 p.m. in the auditorium\, see a free screening of “The Monuments Men” (PG-13\, 2014\, 1h 58m). \nThroughout the day\, enjoy family-friendly art activities in the Artspace. \nAbout the Film\nBased on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history\, “The Monuments Men” is an action drama focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon\, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from German thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines\, and with the German Army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell\, how could these guys – seven museum directors\, curators\, and art historians\, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men\, as they were called\, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture\, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.

Has been called “the last Beatles story to tell about how it all began.” The film chronicles the rise of skiffle music and its impact on post-World War II British youth\, the influence of American Rock ‘n’ Roll and how\, in 1956\, a boy named John Lennon rounded up friends including Paul McCartney and George Harrison to form a group called The Quarrymen. \n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\nTodd Thompson\nOrlando Star North Films\n\nThis is a special film series exclusive screening event of this film that is not yet released to the public\, with a bonus film talk with the director. \nDirector Todd Thompson of Orlando’s Star North Films will introduce his film and answer questions after the screening. Thompson is a creative director\, producer\, and writer who has enjoyed a career both in front and behind the camera. His favorite role\, however\, has always been that of a storyteller. He has more than 20 years of experience working with The Walt Disney Company and other well-known consumer brands and also boasts a modest resume of award-winning films. \nHis most recent is the 2022 Emmy-nominated “Woman In Motion” (Paramount+)\, which chronicles the story of Star Trek’s Nichelle Nichols and her epic journey to bring diversity to our space program after standing up and asking NASA the question: “Where are my people?” In 2022\, “Woman In Motion” was named an ambassador film for the American Film Showcase (AFS)\, a partnership with the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. \n\nFor a full series list and more information on the Ira Holmes International Film Series\, contact Wendy Adams at 352-873-5800\, ext. 1546\, or visit www.CF.edu/filmseries.
