DESCRIPTION:The Visual Artists’ Society presents “Summer Spotlight XXV” with Town and Country as the theme\, at the College of Central Florida Webber Center Gallery May 16-July 28. This biannual exhibit will display the talent and imagination of many local artists belonging to the Visual Artists’ Society. This exhibition will display a variety of styles and mediums\, including traditional paintings\, photographs\, 3-D objects\, and digital media. \nThe exhibition will be judged by Ronda Richley who has 50 years of art experience as an educator and various art business ownerships from coast to coast. She received her Master of Studio Art degree from the University of California. Her art work has been on display in Barcelona\, the UK\, Art Basel Miami\, New York\, Zurich and Los Angeles. She has judged both student and professional art exhibits. Horse Fever 2021 introduced her to Ocala where she has recently moved. Her horse Sunny Daze can be found at the College of Central Florida Vintage Farm. \nSummer gallery hours are Monday through Thursday\, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed Fridays\, Saturdays\, Sundays and college observed holidays. She is a professor of art and head of printmaking at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and is active in several national print alliances and councils. Ballweg’s work has been exhibited in more than 500 shows and has won dozens of awards. Her selection for first place will receive $500\, second place will receive $300\, third place will receive $100\, and two honorable mentions will receive $50. DESCRIPTION:As part of “The Patriot Project: Bringing History to Life” and Latin History Month\, Wendy Adams\, Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences\, will screen “Latin History for Morons.” In this one-man Broadway show\, John Leguizamo finds humor and heartbreak as he traces 3\,000 years of Latin history in an effort to help his bullied son. General Bernardo Galvez’s (from Spain)\, who Leguizamo describes as the “George Washington of Texas\, Louisiana\, and Pensacola\,” personal financing of the war effort and command of army comprised of Puerto Ricans\, Cubans and Mexican that help win American Revolutionary War is highlighted. Hailed by Chicago Tribune’s Chris Jones as “a genuinely brilliant piece of popular\, political theater\,” this is a must see for students\, educators\, and the general public. \nThe event will be held in 8-110 on Wednesday\, Oct. 12\, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The event is free. Light refreshments and event giveaways will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Ocala Campus in Building 8\, Room 110 to hear from legendary author Eileen Myles for a poetry reading\, book giveaway and signing\, followed by a free copy of their latest work for the first 35 attendees! \nAbout the Author \nEileen Myles is a pioneer in literature-proudly authoring more than twenty books\, including For Now\, Evolution\, Afterglow (a dog memoir)\, Chelsea Girls\, and I Must Be Living Twice: New & Selected Poems 1974-2014. Myles’s many honors include four Lambda Literary Awards\, the Clark Prize for Excellence in Arts Writing\, the Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America\, Creative Capital’s Literature Award as well as their Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant\, and a Foundation for Contemporary Arts grant. They were also rewarded the Lambda Pioneer Award for contributions to the LGBT literary community. Myles lives in Marfa\, Texas\, and New York City. \nThis event is part of the CF Visiting Author Series.

Phantoms\, folk dances\, the notorious schoolmaster Ichabod Crane\, Katrina\, the Sleepy Hollow Boys and\, of course\, the Headless Horseman all make appearances onstage. \nTwenty-three CF students make up the cast\, including Janik Buranosky as Ichabod Crane\, Perla Ramirez as Katrina and Jackson Reed as Brom Bones. The production will feature a student-built set and student tech crew. \nTickets are $12 for adults and $6 for non-CF students and can be purchased at CF.universitytickets.com or by calling 352-873-5810. Submissions will be juried by judge Ginger Sheridan\, who will determine what artwork is accepted into the show and award Best in Show\, First Place\, Second Place\, Third Place\, Fourth Place and Honorable Mentions. Awards and prizes will be presented at the opening reception. \nThe exhibition will open on Monday\, Nov. 7\, and be on view through Thursday\, Dec. 8.
