SUMMARY:“EO” Ocala Screening
DESCRIPTION:The College of Central Florida’s Ira Holmes International Film Series is excited to present this year’s season of films. \nAll films will be shown Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art\, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd.\, Ocala\, and at 7 p.m. at the College of Central Florida\, 3001 S.W. College Road\, Building 8\, Room 110\, unless otherwise noted. Films at the Ocala Campus are free and open to the public. Films at the Appleton are free to all museum and film series members; nonmembers pay museum admission. Films may contain mature content. \nAbout the Film\n \n“EO”(NR\, Rwanda/USA\, 2022\, 87 min.) \nThis film by legendary director Jerzy Skolimowski (Deep End\, Moonlighting)\, follows the travels of a nomadic gray donkey named EO. After being removed from the traveling circus\, which is the only life he’s ever known\, EO begins a trek across the Polish and Italian countryside\, experiencing cruelty and kindness in equal measure\, all the while observing the follies and triumphs of humankind.EO begins a trek across the Polish and Italian countryside\, experiencing cruelty and kindness in equal measure\, all the while observing the follies and triumphs of humankind. During his travels\, EO is both helped and hindered by a cast of characters including a young Italian priest (Lorenzo Zurzolo)\, a Countess (Isabelle Huppert)\, and a rowdy Polish soccer team. Loosely inspired by Robert Bresson’s Au hasard Balthazar\, and featuring immersive\, stunning cinematography by Michal Dymek coupled with Pawel Mykietyn’s resonant score\, Skolimowski’s film puts the viewer in the perspective of its four-legged protagonist. EO’s journey speaks to the world around us\, an equine hero boldly pointing out societal ills\, and serving as warning to the dangers of neglect and inaction\, all while on a quest for freedom. \nFor a full series list and more information on the Ira Holmes International Film Series\, contact Wendy Adams at 352-873-5800\, ext. 1546\, or visit www.CF.edu/filmseries.

DESCRIPTION:The College of Central Florida’s Ira Holmes International Film Series is excited to present this year’s season of films. \nAll films will be shown Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art\, 4333 E. When an uncommonly long drought threatens everything they know\, Virginio and Sisa must decide whether to stay and maintain their traditional way of life or admit defeat and move in with family members in the city. Their dilemma is precipitated by the arrival of their grandson Clever\, who comes to visit with news. The three of them must face\, each in their own way\, the effects of a changing environment\, the importance of tradition\, and the meaning of life itself. This visually jaw-dropping debut feature by photographer-turned-filmmaker Alejandro Loayza Grisi is lensed by award-winning cinematographer Barbara Alvarez (Lucrecia Martel’s The Headless Woman) and won the Grand Jury Prize (World Cinema Dramatic) at the Sundance Film Festival. \nFor a full series list and more information on the Ira Holmes International Film Series\, contact Wendy Adams at 352-873-5800\, ext. 1546\, or visit www.CF.edu/filmseries.

SUMMARY:“Fantastic Planet” Appleton Screening
\n\nAbout the Film\n \n“Fantastic Planet ”(NR\, France\, 1973\, 72 min.) \nNothing else has ever looked or felt like director René Laloux’s animated marvel Fantastic Planet\, a politically minded and visually inventive work of science fiction. The film is set on a distant planet called Ygam\, where enslaved humans (Oms) are the playthings of giant blue native inhabitants (Draags). After Terr\, kept as a pet since infancy\, escapes from his gigantic child captor\, he is swept up by a band of radical fellow Oms who are resisting the Draags’ oppression and violence. With its eerie\, coolly surreal cutout animation by Roland Topor; brilliant psychedelic jazz score by Alain Goraguer; and wondrous creatures and landscapes\, this Cannes-awarded 1973 counterculture classic is a perennially compelling statement against conformity and violence. \nAttend this showing in a Sci-Fi inspired Halloween costume and be ettered to win a prize. Refreshments and giveaways provided by the CF Student Activities Board. \nFor a full series list and more information on the Ira Holmes International Film Series\, contact Wendy Adams at 352-873-5800\, ext. 1546\, or visit www.CF.edu/filmseries. \n

SUMMARY:CF Wind Symphony and CF Patriot Singers Concert
DESCRIPTION:The College of Central Florida Wind Symphony and Vocal Ensembles will present a free fall concert on Thursday\, Nov. 9\, at 7:30 p.m. in the Charles R. Dassance Fine Arts Center at the CF Ocala Campus. \nThe Patriot Singers will present music relating to beginnings\, endings and everything in between\, while the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform a set of standards and favorites. SUMMARY:"Seeing Christ in the Darkness: Georges Rouault as Graphic Artist" Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Webber Gallery’s latest exhibit\, “Christ in the Darkness: Georges Rouault as Graphic Artist\,” is on view Jan. 8-March 17. \nAbout the Exhibition  \n“Seeing Christ in the Darkness: Georges Rouault as Graphic Artist\,” an exhibition featuring a variety of graphic works by Georges Rouault (1871-1958)\, the 20th century master expressionist painter and printmaker. The exhibition will be on display Jan. 8-March 17 and features 18 original etchings from the artist’s renowned Miserere Series\, as well as additional etchings\, lithographs and wood engravings from the Fleurs du Mal (I and II) and the Passion Series. \nOn view during the religious season of Lent\, this exhibit allows viewers to consider and contemplate the twin sufferings of humanity and Jesus. Rouault’s work is often darker and complex\, unlike the typical imagery one might connect with Christianity\, making the exhibit perfect for this reflective season within the church calendar. \nThe works on display are from The Bob and Sandra Bowden Collection of Chatham\, Massachusetts\, a substantial collection built over many years and many trips to Europe. Sandra Bowden will visit the Webber Center and Gallery on Wednesday\, Jan. 17\, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. She will participate in a question-and-answer forum with Professor Tyrus Clutter about the content and style of Rouault’s work. There is no fee to attend this session. \nThe Webber Gallery is located at the CF Ocala Campus\, 3001 S.W. College Road. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and admission is free. A depiction of rural Bengali life in a style inspired by Italian neorealism\, this naturalistic but poetic evocation of a number of years in the life of a family introduces us to both little Apu and\, just as essentially\, the women who will help shape him: his independent older sister\, Durga; his harried mother\, Sarbajaya\, who\, with her husband away\, must hold the family together; and his kindly and mischievous elderly “auntie\,” Indir—vivid\, multifaceted characters all. With resplendent photography informed by its young protagonist’s perpetual sense of discovery\, Pather Panchali\, which won an award for Best Human Document at Cannes\, is an immersive cinematic experience and a film of elemental power. \nFor a full series list and more information on the Ira Holmes International Film Series\, contact Wendy Adams at 352-873-5800\, ext. 1546\, or visit www.CF.edu/filmseries.

SUMMARY:“Petite Maman” Appleton Screening
DESCRIPTION:The College of Central Florida’s Ira Holmes International Film Series is excited to present this year’s season of films. \nAll films will be shown Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art\, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd.\, Ocala\, and at 7 p.m. at the College of Central Florida\, 3001 S.W. College Road\, Building 8\, Room 110\, unless otherwise noted. In the wake of her grandmother’s death\, eight-year-old Nelly (Joséphine Sanz) accompanies her distraught mother (Nina Meurisse) to her childhood home. There\, Nelly’s encounter with another young girl (Gabrielle Sanz) brings mother and daughter together in a way neither could have ever imagined. Evoking childhood’s perpetual state of wonder through luminous\, richly textured images\, Petite maman takes viewers on a journey inward for a quietly miraculous tale of emotional time travel. \nFor a full series list and more information on the Ira Holmes International Film Series\, contact Wendy Adams at 352-873-5800\, ext. 1546\, or visit www.CF.edu/filmseries. \n
