Join us for a celebration of artistic talent and expression as we proudly showcase the talents within the College of Central Florida’s Visual Arts and Digital Media programs. \nWorks will be judged by Jacob Z. Wan\, an artist and conceptual bookbinder who creates mixed-media books to celebrate the importance of oneself. His books have been collected internationally and exhibited in Germany\, China\, the Florida Biennial\, and the International Book Art Exhibition in New York. DESCRIPTION:The community is invited to attend the opening reception of the “Grafted Roots” Webber Gallery exhibition Friday\, May 31 at 6 p.m. \nOn view 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday\, May 20-Thursday\, July 18\, this exhibition is the first solo curated show of Ocala resident David Campo III. David has a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from the University of Florida and a Master of Arts in art history from the University of Georgia\, as well as a Master of Arts in museum studies from the University of Florida. He has been published in various exhibition catalogs and has co-curated other exhibitions. \nThe theme “Grafted Roots” refers to the agricultural technique of grafting sweet orange branches onto sour orange roots to increase resiliency to the elements. Similarly\, all the artists featured in this show are transplanted from their original homes\, be it from a different country\, state or town. DESCRIPTION:The community is invited to explore the “Threading the Needle: National Art Quilt Exhibition” at the Webber Gallery on view 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday\, Nov. 7\, – Thursday\, Dec. 12. \nThis is a competitive exhibition that will showcase 2D quilted works from artists across the nation. Artworks will be judged by Bobbi Baugh\, a Florida-based textile artist whose award-winning works have been shown nationally. Awards will be announced during the  exhibition reception  by Baugh on Wednesday\, Nov. 13. \nInterested in hearing more about the artwork? DESCRIPTION:The College of Central Florida’s Ira Holmes International Film Series presents a full season of films\, film talks and special events. \nAll films will be shown Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art\, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd.\, Ocala\, and at 7 p.m. at the College of Central Florida\, 3001 S.W. College Road\, Building 8\, Room 110\, unless otherwise noted. Films at the Ocala Campus are free and open to the public. Films at the Appleton are free to all museum and film series members; nonmembers pay museum admission. Films may contain mature content. \n\nAbout the Film\n“Long Flat Balls”(NR\, Norway\, 2006\, 1 hour\, 43 minutes) \nThose that attendance last season’s enjoyed the screening of the Norwegian comedy heist film Long Flat Balls III: Broken Promises so much that the film series reached out to director Harald Zwart to express gratitude for his with getting us a copy of the film that could be screened in the US with our equipment. In response\, the filmmaker suggested that the series show the entire trilogy and graciously granted the necessary permissions and films to do so. \nIn Long Flat Balls\, the first film in the trilogy\, the Norwegian working-class heroes of EdGarasjen empty their bank accounts to travel to the World Cup soccer championship in Germany in hopes of saving the garage (and their jobs) from bankruptcy. \nFor a full series list and more information on the Ira Holmes International Film Series\, contact Wendy Adams at 352-873-5800\, ext. 1546\, or visit www.CF.edu/filmseries.
