Robert Watson\, Ph.D.\, will present “Alexander Hamilton: Man\, Myth\, Musical” on Monday\, Sept. 19\, at 12:30 p.m. at the Dassance Fine Arts Center on the CF Ocala Campus\, 3001 S.W. College Road. The lecture will be followed by a reception at 2 p.m. in the college’s Clifford B. Stearns Learning Resources Center. \nDr. Watson is a distinguished professor of American history and an Avron Fogelman research professor at Lynn University. He’ll share the intriguing backstory of Hamilton’s Jewish roots and hardscrabble upbringing as well as a fun fact-check of the musical and a closer look at the history behind some of the show’s iconic scenes.

A former professional football player drafted by the New Orleans Saints\, law enforcement officer\, and Rockledge city councilman\, Dr. Michael A. Cadore Sr. has served his community for over three decades through education\, public safety\, civic engagement\, and mentoring. His community efforts led to him receiving the distinguished alumni award for 2021 from Eastern Florida State College and the 2022 Distinguished Service Award from Eastern Kentucky University. Dr. Cadore will inspire attendees with his life motto\, “If you don’t serve your community now\, don’t expect your community to serve you later.” \nThis event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments and event giveaways will be provided. The lecture is funded by the Mr. and Mrs. Seymour B. Robinson Memorial Endowed Chair.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Ocala Campus in Building 8\, Room 110 to hear from legendary author Eileen Myles for a poetry reading\, book giveaway and signing\, followed by a free copy of their latest work for the first 35 attendees! \nAbout the Author \nEileen Myles is a pioneer in literature-proudly authoring more than twenty books\, including For Now\, Evolution\, Afterglow (a dog memoir)\, Chelsea Girls\, and I Must Be Living Twice: New & Selected Poems 1974-2014. Myles’s many honors include four Lambda Literary Awards\, the Clark Prize for Excellence in Arts Writing\, the Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America\, Creative Capital’s Literature Award as well as their Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant\, and a Foundation for Contemporary Arts grant. They were also rewarded the Lambda Pioneer Award for contributions to the LGBT literary community. Myles lives in Marfa\, Texas\, and New York City. \nThis event is part of the CF Visiting Author Series.

DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, Oct. 26\, the public is invited to an opening reception from 10:30 am.-12:30 p.m. at Building 20 at the Ocala Campus. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the 13 stanchions that represent planets from the sun all the way to the dwarf planet Pluto. \n“It has been a long time coming\, but we can finally say that the Voyage project is placed on the Ocala Campus\,” said Brian Holloway\, a CF student and president of the Kappa Nu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. “Our goal with this project is to instill enthusiasm and awareness of STEAM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, the Arts and Mathematics) programs while also providing an opportunity for our students and the community to walk a 1 to 10-billion scale model of our solar system. Each of the 13 stanchions contains information pertaining to where you are in the solar system at that point of your walk.” \nThis model was brought to the College of Central Florida for permanent display by the Kappa Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa with assistance from the CF Foundation in honor of Mrs. Charlotte Rosenberg\, Ocala Municipal Art Commission\, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Renaissance Printing.
