SUMMARY:The Extreme Pressure Biennial of American Prints Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Webber Gallery presents “The 2022 Extreme Pressure Biennial of American Prints\,” an inaugural competitive national exhibition. On view Aug. 8-Sept. 22.\, this exhibition will present a celebration and examination of contemporary printmaking through traditional printmaking by artists from across the United States. \nPurchase awards totaling a minimum of $2\,500 will be made through local organizations\, with some works entering the college’s permanent collections. Five cash prizes will be awarded based on the selections of juror Janet Ballweg. She is a professor of art and head of printmaking at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and is active in several national print alliances and councils. Ballweg’s work has been exhibited in more than 500 shows and has won dozens of awards. Her selection for first place will receive $500\, second place will receive $300\, third place will receive $100\, and two honorable mentions will receive $50. CAMPUS USA is a proud partner of the College of Central Florida and has generously funded the prizes. \nAwards and prizes will be presented at the opening reception on Friday\, Aug. 19\, 5-7 p.m. \nThe Webber Gallery is located at the CF Ocala Campus\, 3001 S.W. Themes of humor and perseverance will take center stage in this year’s 11 films selected from around the globe. \nAll films will be shown Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art\, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd.\, Ocala\, and at 7 p.m. at the College of Central Florida\, 3001 S.W. College Road\, Building 8\, Room 110\, unless otherwise noted. Films at the Ocala Campus are free and open to the public. Films at the Appleton are free to all museum and film series members; nonmembers pay museum admission. Films may contain mature content. \n\nAbout the Film\n \n“Wild Men” (NR\, Denmark\, 2021\, 104 min.) \nArmed only with a bow and some animal skins\, Martin sets off into the forest in a misguided attempt to overcome his midlife crisis. A chance meeting with a fugitive leads to a twisted trip through the fjords with police\, drug runners and his family close behind. Martin’s quest for manhood leads to deep and hilariously uncomfortable realizations about the presumed masculine ideal. DESCRIPTION:Fans of the “Hamilton” musical won’t want to miss the inaugural event in the College of Central Florida’s Stearns Speaker Series. Robert Watson\, Ph.D.\, will present “Alexander Hamilton: Man\, Myth\, Musical” on Monday\, Sept. 19\, at 12:30 p.m. at the Dassance Fine Arts Center on the CF Ocala Campus\, 3001 S.W. College Road. The lecture will be followed by a reception at 2 p.m. in the college’s Clifford B. Stearns Learning Resources Center. \nDr. Watson is a distinguished professor of American history and an Avron Fogelman research professor at Lynn University. He’ll share the intriguing backstory of Hamilton’s Jewish roots and hardscrabble upbringing as well as a fun fact-check of the musical and a closer look at the history behind some of the show’s iconic scenes.
