DESCRIPTION:CF’s Student Art Exhibition is open to the public at the College of Central Florida Webber Gallery March 28-May 5. This annual show provides students with an opportunity to present their work in a professional environment. There will be a variety of work on display.  \nThe exhibition will be judged and juried by Carla Poindexter\, Professor of Studio art at the University of Central Florida. Professor Carla Poindexter teaches intermediate and advanced painting\, advanced drawing\, and foundations design at UCF. She also teaches various classes in upper level experimental book arts\, studio concentration\, and seminars in SVAD’s Studio Art MFA program. Poindexter is actively involved in the BFA and MFA programs’ growth and has served as chair of several HIM and MFA thesis committees.  \nUnder the direction of judge Carla Poindexter\, awards for Best in Show\, First Place\, Second Place\, Third Place\, and Honorable Mentions will be awarded.

SUMMARY:'To Kill a Mockingbird' Film Talk
DESCRIPTION:The College of Central Florida is excited and proud to announce the 60th anniversary celebration of its International Film Series. While the official name has been changed to honor the series founder Ira Holmes\, the now Ira Holmes International Film Series is true to its origins. Featured this year are classic films from 1962\, the birth year of the series. \nAll films will be shown Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art\, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd.\, Ocala\, and at 7 p.m. at the College of Central Florida\, 3001 S.W. College Road\, Building 8\, Room 110\, unless otherwise noted. Films at the Ocala Campus are free and open to the public. Films at the Appleton are free to all museum and film series members; nonmembers pay museum admission. Showings will be followed by an online scholarly film talk each Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. Films may contain mature content. \nAbout the Film\n“To Kill a Mockingbird” is a 1962 American drama directed by Robert Mulligan. The film follows the lives of three children on the cusp of adolescence and their loving father living in a small town that bears witness to racial injustice in the segregated South. The screenplay by Horton Foote is based on Harper Lee’s 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. It stars Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch and Mary Badham as Scout. The film debuts Robert Duvall\, William Windom and Alice Ghostley. \n  \nFilm Talk Host\nGilbert B. Rodman is associate professor of Communication Studies at the University of Minnesota. He is the author of “Why Cultural Studies?” (Wiley Blackwell\, 2015) and “Elvis After Elvis” (Routledge\, 1996) and the editor of “The Race and Media Reader” (Routledge\, 2014) and the co-editor of “Race in Cyberspace” (Routledge\, 2000). He is the former chair of the Association for Cultural Studies and the founder/manager of the CULTSTUD-L listserv.
