Birthday Parties and After-school Activities New to Appleton's Fall Lineup
July 28, 2014
The Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, is venturing into the birthday party business this fall with its new “Arty Parties.”
“Arty Parties are a fun, creative way to celebrate children’s birthdays and other special occasions,” said Victoria Billig, assistant director of the museum. “This is just one more way for the museum to inspire creativity in budding artists.”
Arty Parties include a hands-on art experience led by museum education staff, a visit to the galleries and refreshments. Party hosts can choose from several themes. Party fees include admission to the museum for up to 15 children, online party invitations and party favor bags.
Also new to the Appleton’s fall calendar is “Half-day Happenings,” a creative way to spend Marion County Public School Early Release Days. Sept. 10, Oct. 1, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10, from 1:30-3 p.m., the museum will offer an art assignment with hands-on art-making experience for students.
Students ages 7-12 can also enroll in “After School Explorations,” a series of four five-week sessions beginning in September, each focusing on a different medium and theme. Session themes are Sculpture Fun, Clay Sampler, Drawing and Painting, and Watercolor Magic.
Returning this year for adults is “Art 101,” a series of hands-on workshops. Paint a silk scarf Sept. 16, paint with watercolors Oct. 21, or paint with acrylics Nov. 18.
The museum will also offer two six-week “Dig into Clay” workshops where adults can create earthenware sculptures, vessels and other ceramic artworks using a variety of hand-building techniques. The first workshop session begins Sept. 8 and the second session begins Oct. 27. During each session, classes are held once a week for six consecutive weeks. The cost is $150 for Appleton members and $200 for nonmembers, with an additional $25 supply fee.
