The College of Central Florida will host a lecture with archaeologist Garth Norman Monday, Nov. 25, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Dassance Fine Arts Center at the CF Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.
Norman will present his latest discoveries of ancient world migrations to and from Izapa, Mexico, birthplace of the Mayan Calendar. He will also introduce his latest book, “Izapa Sacred Space: Sculpture Calendar Code.”
The leading authority in iconographic research of the early Mayan Izapan culture, Norman began his professional archaeology career in 1965 as a research associate with the Brigham Young University New World Archaeological Foundation's Izapa, Mexico project.
His most recent project has been exploring a natural temple center at the Parowan Gap in southwestern Utah where he has discovered an observatory and calendar link to Mesoamerica.
