CF Citrus to Host Lecture, Art on Environmental Restoration
Sept. 9, 2013
The College of Central Florida will host a lecture and exhibit of “Region4: Transformation through Imagination” Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 7-9 p.m. in the Citrus Learning and Conference Center at the Citrus Campus, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway, Lecanto.
Speaker Mallory O’Connor will discuss the art that draws attention to environmental contamination. The exhibit focuses on the history and possibilities of restoration for the Cabbot/Koppers EPA Superfund site in Gainesville. The 140-acre site includes properties contaminated by a charcoal production facility and a wood treatment facility.
For “Region4: Transformation through Imagination” the artists used scientific data from the site to create their artworks, often forming partnerships with scientists who served as consultants on the projects. The project was organized by the Superfund Art Project in collaboration with Protect Gainesville Citizens
There is no fee to attend the lecture or view the exhibit. For more information, contact CF Associate Professor of Visual Arts Michele Wirt at 352-746-6721, ext. 6131.
