Single Stream Recycling

The Sustainability Task Force was formed in 2005 to explore ways of reducing CF’s environmental footprint. The group of faculty, students, staff and administrators work to promote sustainability on campus and beyond. The Task Force is now focusing on campus recycling and increasing awareness through a Web presence.

The College of Central Florida has earned Tree Campus USA recognition for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship. This is the fourth year that CF has been recognized.

Tree Campus USA is a national program that honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy management of their campus forests and for engaging the community in environmental stewardship. Tree Campus USA is a program of the Arbor Day Foundation.

CF met the five core standards of tree care and community engagement in order to receive 2012 Tree Campus USA status. The standards are establishing a campus tree advisory committee; providing a campus tree-care plan; dedicating annual expenditures on the campus tree-care plan; participating in an Arbor Day observance; and instituting a service-learning project to engage students.

April 22, 2013 - Earth Day

This year CF’s Cycle Environmental Club is planning an Earth Day observance which will take place in Bedford plaza during the activity hour (4/22 – Noon until 1:45 pm). We have invited community organizations to display information about recycling, water use, Florida’s aquifers, storm water and even a table about the importance of bees in agriculture. SAB will have games for students. Pizza and drinks will be provided by SAB and Cycle Environmental Club. It will be a fun afternoon with lots of useful information.

The Mathematics of Sustainability

The Math Department has scheduled an open house. Humanity continually faces the challenge of how to balance human needs against the world's resources while operating within the constraints imposed by the laws of nature. Mathematics helps us better understand these complex issues and is used by mathematicians and practitioners in a wide range of fields to seek creative solutions for a sustainable way of life. Society and individuals will need to make difficult choices; mathematics provides us with tools to make informed decisions.
