Marion County offers a unique opportunity for individuals interested in the Environmental Horticulture field of study. Careers in landscape design, irrigation, and maintenance have soared over the last ten years and growth in Central Florida will continue to increase.

Classroom instruction includes a diversification of teaching techniques that brings excitement to presentations and enhances student learning and development in the classroom. Methods include the use of power point, real world applications, on line delivery, hands-on learning, students teaching students, field trips, and guest speakers. Students can take class through classroom or on line delivery in their own home. All classes are web assisted for enhanced student learning, and with development of horticultural gardens within our own facility students become well versed in local plant material including annuals and perennials, develop landscape construction skills, and become proficient in landscape maintenance skills necessary for industry.

Classes are also offered in Nursery Certification, strengthening our industry by offering training for individuals presently employed in the field of nursery operations and landscape. Hands on instruction becomes even more of a reality with the development of the maze garden below.

Students can enjoy the opportunity of working in an exciting and lucrative career after just two years of education by earning an Associates of Science Degree in Horticulture.

It is College of Central Florida's mission to provide an opportunity to achieve a quality education. The primary objective of CF Environmental Horticulture Department is to provide students with the education and practical experience necessary to become either a Licensed Professional as a Landscape Technician or Horticulture Technician.

About CF Environmental Horticulture

CF Horticulture has served the local community through the introduction of both nursery and landscape professionals to our industry. Our graduates are known to represent a standard that is exceptional within our industry. Many work as designers for local landscape contractors, others have developed their own businesses or move on to work in the area of Extension Services or as State Nursery Inspection. With the city of Apopka in close proximity to Marion County, graduates have found lucrative jobs in the greenhouse industry as assistant growers. Others enjoy the exciting as well as fast changing field of Turfgrass Management by working on local golf courses.
