So what does the typical school day look like?
Students start arriving a little before 8:00AM, they put their materials in
their classroom locker and get ready for class. The instructor comes up from his office about 7:50AM and gets the classroom materials ready. At 8:00AM, we take attendance and start the class. The class room portion of the day starts out at the overhead projector listing the days objectives to be covered. The instruction can come from a variety of different methods: lecture, video presentation, discussions, real life situations, question and answers, CD presentation or internet searches. A portion of the class is reserved for preparation and review of ASE style questions to help prepare the students for class tests and for the ASE Certification Exams that will be coming up at the end of the semester. Shop assignments are given to the students, we then take a 15 minute break.
Upon return to the shop, we start work on completing our NATEF objectives. We usually work with 3--4 students to a group on the vehicle assigned. We start wrapping up and cleaning up for lunch around 11:45AM. We close the shop doors and go to lunch from 12:00PM to 1:PM. There are times where the lunch hour may vary.
We return from lunch and meet in the classroom for attendance and a recap of morning activities. We move back into the shop and continue completing our objectives until 3:00PM. We clean-up, wash-up and close down at 3:15PM. The instructor is available after class for any personal questions or special help that is needed.
