CF ART COLLECTION ON DISPLAY AT OCALA CITY HALL
Oct. 25, 2013
Highlights from the College of Central Florida’s Permanent Art Collection are on display at Ocala City Hall, 110 S.E. Watula Ave., through Dec. 6. The exhibit, which coincides with the Fine Arts for Ocala (FAFO) Ocala Art Festival Oct. 26-27, can be viewed during regular City Hall hours, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“The City of Ocala is honored to exhibit this selection of work from CF’s art collection,” said Melissa Townsend, the city’s community cultural arts coordinator. “It is fitting that the display coincides with the return of the FAFO Ocala Art Festival to downtown Ocala.”
The works displayed on the first floor of City Hall are all purchases from the Ocala Art Festival, which the college frequently sponsors. The works found on the second floor are by CF students.
The College of Central Florida exhibits and manages a vibrant permanent art collection on its campuses. The CF Art Collection consists of three categories: the Permanent Art Collection, the Schmehl Collection and the Student Art Collection.
The CF Permanent Art Collection dates back to the college’s inception, more than 50 years ago. With the addition of the Webber Center Gallery in the 1990s and a growing number of student artists, the college built up its Student Art Collection. The Schmehl Art Collectionwas donated by the estate of Leon Schmehl and is on display throughout the Ocala Campus.
Collectively, the College of Central Florida now displays more than 500 works of art at its Ocala and Citrus campuses and Levy and Hampton centers, not including works at the Appleton Museum of Art. CF will display more selections from the entire collection at the Webber Center Gallery in January 2014.
