CF No. 8 in Nation for Affordability
June 27, 2013
The College of Central Florida is ranked No. 8 in affordability in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Education. CF tuition and fees for 2011-2012 were 66.9 percent below the national average of $7,135 for public four-year or above institutions.
The news follows CF’s announcement Tuesday that tuition and fees will not increase for 2013-2014. The cost for associate level courses will remain at $105.10 per credit hour, or approximately $2,523 per year for a student with a 12-credit course load for two semesters.
“At CF, we know the incredible value we are providing students in our community,” said Dr. Jim Henningsen, CF president. “This ranking shows just what a value we are. In addition to being cost effective, we have talented faculty, relevant programs, resources such as free tutoring, and a full student life experience. At CF, our vision is to be the first choice for quality higher education in our community.”
The U.S. Department of Education releases the College Affordability and Transparency Lists annually “as part of its effort to help students make informed decisions about their choice for higher education,” according to its website. Data for the rankings comes from the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Systems. Tuition reports include tuition and required fees, and are for full-time beginning students. The figures are based on a 12-credit course load for two semesters.
CF offers more than 60 programs including college credit certificates, postsecondary adult vocational programs, associate and bachelor’s degrees. Some programs, including the Associate in Arts, can be completed online.
Beginning this fall, CF will offer its Bachelor of Applied Science in Business and Organizational Management for $10,000. Students pay the first $10,000 and CF will cover the balance. In addition to the general business degree, there are specializations in Agribusiness Management, Management Information Systems, Health Care Management and Public Safety Administration.
The only other Florida College System institution ranked as more affordable than CF was Palm Beach College at No. 7 with a difference of $41.
