Sept. 17, 2013
The Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, will host “A Toast to the Arts," Nov. 2 through Jan. 5, 2014. The juried fine arts exhibit is being sponsored by the Ocala Art Group and will showcase the work of many of its members in interpretation of the theme: “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.”
The Appleton Museum will offer free admission for the opening reception Saturday, Nov. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. Entertainment will be provided.
The Ocala Art Group, founded in 1950, is one of the oldest organizations of its kind in the region. Its members are talented North Central Florida artists working in a variety of mediums, including oils, acrylics, mixed media, pastels, pen and ink, and sculpture.
Award-winning artist and journalist Bill James, a graduate of Syracuse University who lives and works from his studio in Florida, will select the pieces to be included in the exhibit as well as the award winners. Awards will be presented during the opening reception. In addition, a People's Choice Award will be presented at the closing of the exhibit in January, giving museum visitors an opportunity to cast votes for their favorites.
