CF to Host Art of Painter, Printer, Teacher Tyrus Clutter
Oct. 30, 2012
The College of Central Florida will host the art of painter, printmaker and CF Assistant Professor Tyrus Clutter in November.
The exhibit opens Monday, Nov. 5, and runs through Nov. 30 in the upstairs exhibition hall in the Dorothea G. Jerome Building, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway in Lecanto. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. with guitarist Ben Medrano.
“This work investigates the tenuous relationship between word and image,” said Clutter. “The two longstanding forms of communication in western civilization are increasingly losing their distinctive characteristics.
“Contemporary culture progressively places greater stock in image as the primary form of communication. The use of film, television, video, print media, and the Internet has forced us into fast-paced states of communication in which we have little time to digest the underlying meanings of the images we see,” Clutter said. “At the same time, the written word continues to retain a viable role within this image-based culture.”
Clutter has a Bachelor of Arts from Spring Arbor University and Master of Arts in Painting from Bowling Green State University. His work can be found in private collections as well as in public collections including the Print Collection of the New York Public Library, the National September 11 Memorial Museum at the World Trade Center, the Museum of Biblical Art, and the New York Center for Art and Media Studies. He has taught art and art history since 1995, and has been teaching at CF since 2010. He continues to produce art, write and speak on topics of art, art history and aesthetics around the country.
Exhibit hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The exhibit is closed weekends. There is no charge to attend the exhibition or the opening, which are made possible by the CF Foundation.
