CF Recognized as Engaged Campus
Nov. 16, 2012
The College of Central Florida has received the Engaged Campus Award in the Florida College Sector by Florida Campus Compact.
CF was recognized for advancing the public purposes of higher education, improving community life, and educating students for civic and social responsibility. The award was presented at the 2012 Florida Campus Contact Awards Gala on Nov. 8 in Tampa.
“At CF, the curriculum and pedagogy, faculty culture, resources, structure and commitment to community allow students to have the opportunity to develop their own voice through civic engagement projects,” said Dr. Christine Olson, CF Service Learning coordinator. “Through community involvement projects such as the Alternative Spring Break Initiative, Junior Achievement, Salvation Army Evangeline Booth Garden apartment projects, and many other service opportunities, students are able to get a glimpse of needs that exist within the community.
“Projects such as these transform the lives of the individuals that participate by igniting a passion to serve and create change for the next generation.”
Campus Compact is a national coalition of almost 1,200 college and university presidents — representing some 6 million students — who are committed to fulfilling the civic purposes of higher education.
