CF to Launch Youth Choir
Jan. 6, 2012
Marion County students will have an opportunity to exercise their vocal chords when the College of Central Florida launches the CF Young Singers.
The new community youth choir will be open to Marion County youths ages 7 to 15 with any level of talent or experience. The choir will learn choral singing in a fun, safe and accepting social environment and will perform music from many different cultures.
“I am very excited to have a community youth choir in Marion County,” said Matthew Bumbach, CF assistant professor and director of the new choir. “Many of our public schools do not have choirs so students miss out on the opportunity to perform. The arts are so important, and students deserve these opportunities.”
Starting Jan. 26, the choir will rehearse most Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the Charles R. Dassance Fine Arts Center, Room 123, at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. Practices will continue through May, and two performances will be held during the semester. There is an annual $25 registration fee to participate.
Bumbach has instructed students at middle school, high school and college levels. He has a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Stetson University and a master’s in Music in Choral Conducting from the University of South Florida. He is artistic director of the Marion Civic Chorale.
