Tim Ryan enters his ninth season as the College of Central Florida men’s basketball coach on a school-record streak of six consecutive appearances in the FCCAA/NJCAA Region VIII Tournament. Ryan owns a career record of 173-83, including four Mid-Florida Conference championships, since replacing Gene Smithson in 2003.

A former player at New York City's Power Memorial Academy and Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Ryan's coaching career began in 1993 at Clearwater Central Catholic High School, where he spent four seasons coaching teams from the freshmen to varsity level. He was named head coach at St. Petersburg Catholic High School in 1997, and led the program to its first two Pinellas County Private School Tournament championships and the school's second and third appearances in the regional playoffs.

Ryan enjoyed similar results upon his move to the college ranks. He spent three successful seasons as associate head coach at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, where he helped lead the Hawks to an average of 20 wins per season, two state tournament appearances, and a Suncoast Conference championship.

Ryan is also heavily involved with AAU and youth basketball. He guided the Clearwater Piranhas to a 256-54 record, 12 tournament titles and seven national tournament appearances in as many years, the only Florida team to qualify for the national tournament each year over that span. He has also coached at the prestigious Five-Star Basketball Camp in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Tallahassee. Ryan's work at CF extends beyond the basketball team, as he runs the popular Camp Patriot for local youth each summer and is the coordinator of CF's intramural sports program.

Ryan holds a Master's degree in psychology from National-Louis University. He and his wife, JoAnne, have four children, Tim, 25, Nicole, 24, Veronica, 19, and Tommy, 16.

Assistant Coach Tito Arias

Coach Tito Arias enters his third season as the Patriots’ assistant coach. His primary duties with the program include recruiting, scouting, strength training, on-floor coaching, academic advisement and game preparation.

A Miami native, Arias began his collegiate playing career in 2003 at Miami-Dade College. He then transferred to the University of Maine at Machias, where he spent two years as starting point guard and earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation and tourism management.

Arias transitioned quickly into coaching, spending a year as an assistant under UMM coach Brac Brady before joining the CF staff prior to the 2008-09 season. Arias has also spent the last several summers mentoring young athletes at the Hoops and Dreams Camp at UMM.
